Day 08 - 10/09/2021 - An Electric Cabo
This morning we woke up at 6:30am to a room temperature of over 80°. We realized the air conditioning system works on sea water and we are in much warmer water. So I called the front desk and a representative was there by 7am and confirmed the readings. He indicated there were a lot of complaints.
After a quick breakfast, we reported to the Main Stage and our group was the first one dispatched on the first tender. It was already hot and projected to hit 90°f. There was an armed Mexican sailer on the pier and we had a bag check. Our tour coordinator gathered us up and we made our way to a motor coach for a 45 to 60 minute ride to the venues hi hi was located up the west coast of the Baja peninsula. Along the way several people saw a whale breech!
My adventure this day was to ride an electric bicycle. I chose this activity specifically to get a sense of how an electric bicycle works and handles. Unfortunately my wife couldn't do it because of a hip injury earlier this year which limits her range of motion. Fortunately they accommodated her in the camel ride as a substitute. After gearing up with arm & shin pads and helmets we received instructions on how to ride the bikes which were Radpower a brand with which I was familiar. After a couple of practice laps, they put the hombres behind the leader and the senioritas in the back. I rode the entire sand course of about 4 miles right on the tail of the leader and encouraged him to go faster. As a motorcyclist, riding in sand is easier at speed, but these fat tired bikes handled well in the sand. We then got to ride 3-4 miles on the beach and that was super cool!
Returning to the Basecamp, we were treated to a massive Mexican buffet which certainly induced sleep for some on the long ride back to the port. Since we had been here multiple times previously, we looked for and found a postcard to purchase before taking a tender back to the ship. It was simply too hot to walk around.
Back on the ship, Angela swam and I took pictures and relaxed in the shade. The Cruise Director announced that the Captain received permission to sail out and around Lands End in search of sea lions. They even opened up the bow on deck 5 but it was too crowded and very hot so we went up to Deck 10 where it wasn't crowded and we even found some shade.
Before the excellent show by The Alleycats, an a cappella Doo Wop quartet, we split a pizza for dinner on the aft deck. Because the show was so good, we returned to watch the 9pm show before watching the end of the country music set at Billboard online.
Tonight our clocks get set ahead another hour. Tomorrow is a sea day as we cross the entrance to the Sea of Cortez. We're projected to travel at 8 knots (really slow).
