Day 03 - 10/04/2021 - A Lazy Day at sea
For me, I appreciate a relaxing sea day. The schedule was pretty light today. After attending the morning coffee chat with the Cruise Director, Valerie, and the Naturalist, we read our books in the Crow's Nest. I'm reading Righteous Assassin by Kevin Chapman. We had nothing scheduled until a salmon cooking demonstration after lunch by the head chef from the pinnacle grill, Mike. It was the first of the new HAL produced cooking shows called Port to Table replacing the former America's Test Kitchen. The new approach is much better in my opinion as the presentations are much more realistic with tips that can be easily tried at home. Today's demonstration was cooking salmon and preparing Eggs Benedict. There was a terrific tip on cooking poached eggs.
Afterwards we participated in the best wine tasting we've ever been in. We liked all 5 selections by our Croatian Cellarmaster, Sasa. We're not big wine drinkers, but these were very good. There were no crackers, bread, chocolate or cheese to cleanse our palates, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Our table mates, Mary & John, were from Spokane and we shared a lot in common. Sasa also commented that due to the pandemic, there would be no Sip & Savor nor Cellarmaster dinners.
We booked a sushi dinner in Nami and it was spectacular. It's part of the Tamarind, and our servers were thrilled to have us back.
The evening entertainment was a dance show, Musicology, by the One Step dance company, followed by a game show in the BBKing club and then Billboard Online with the dueling pianos which is a venue we really like.
It was a very relaxing day learning more about cooking salmon, savoring new wines, meeting nee people, and enjoying fine entertainment. It doesn't get much better than this!
Tomorrow is our stop at Santa Catalina Island which is a stop we've looked forward to visiting. Stay tuned.
